Rail vacations worth slowing down for

There is something special about seeing a country from a train window. No airports, no highways — just mountains, coastlines, and small towns rolling by while you relax with a coffee. Rail vacations are one of our favorite ways to travel, and two partners we book often are Amtrak Vacations and Railbookers.

Closer to home, Amtrak Vacations has classics like the California Zephyr, which crosses the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada between Chicago and San Francisco, and the Empire Builder through Glacier National Park. For a fall trip, the routes through New England and eastern Canada are hard to beat when the leaves turn.

Railbookers opens up the rest of the world: the Glacier Express and Bernina line through the Swiss Alps, scenic journeys across Italy from the lakes to the Amalfi Coast, and rail-and-stay packages through the UK and Ireland.

Every rail trip we plan is built around you — hotel nights, sightseeing, and the right train classes all bundled together. Take a look at our Rail Tours page for example itineraries, then send us an enquiry and we will put together a quote.
